He was nerfed, we killed him, we got loot, we eventually updated the front page. Hooray Lich King!
Well, we took down the Illidari council last night. After about a month of recruiting and vacation issues, we're finally sort of up to full strength once more, and it was never more evident than in our relatively quick adaptation to a new positioning on Council, and our immediate dismissal of phase 1 of Illidan. Phase 2 is shaping up okay, got as far as 20% on one flame before we had a death, and hopefully, we'll see some more progress this upcoming week. Council was a bit of a barrier for us, not only because of ranged and healers clumping up, but also because of the incredible fiddliness of the AoE that pulls a disappearing act on you. Flamestrike's here, oh, it's gone, BUT NOT REALLY, HAHAHA, NOW YOU HAVE TO SPEND 17 MINUTES SHIELD BASHING HEALS AGAIN, HAHA. Blizzard is here, BUT IT'S ALSO ABOUT 20 YARDS LARGER THAN IT LOOKS HAHA, NOW VERAS CAN GET BLESSING OF SPELL WARDING'ED AGAIN, AND KILL SOME HEALERS BEFORE YOUR TANK CAN GET HIM HAHA, ENJOY OUR STUPIDLY LONG FIGHT SOME MORE, WILL YOU? Initial fireball went off okay, BUT HAHA, THAT CRAZY ZEREVOR WENT RUNNING OFF TO THE BACK OF THE PLATFORM AGAIN TO GET HIS HOT POCKETS OUT OF THE MICROWAVE OR SOMETHING EQUALLY STUPID, ENJOY REZZING AGAIN FOR 10 MINUTES WHILE WE EAT THEM AND LAUGH AT YOU WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Oh, Malande is casting Circle of Healing, I'll just shield bash it, BUT HAHA, BLESSING OF PROTECTION IN THE MIDDLE OF HER CAST WASTES THE SHIELD BASH AND GIVES YOU 0.2 SECONDS TO REACT TO THE HEAL, HAHA, I LAUGH AT YOUR FEEBLE ATTEMPTS TO BRING US IN LINE. I hope that last paragraph adequately demonstrates the frustration of the encounter to people who have never done it, but if not, I leave you with one final sentence: FREAKING THALASSIAN TAUNTS. I do NOT want to be laughed at by freaking blood elves, especially Zerevor who refuses to speak anything resembling a proper language, and speaks about his bel'amors or shamalama ding dongs, or whatever, and look at him. He's not so tough. /sigh Anyway, we got enough attempts in on Illidan that we're already ALL tired of his intro speech which goes from incredibly cool to dull as dishwater to annoying as anything within the span of about a three attempts. Also, you'd think Akama might want to stick around to see Illidan die, but I guess he's really not all THAT set on revenge. Only one more boss between us, and the end of true T6 content.
On Sunday night, Carpe Draconis went into Hyjal, and spent two hours running for our lives. We were working on Archimonde, and, if you've done the fight, you'll know that movement and intelligent DPS are the key to success. Well, knowing this, we decided not to DPS Archie until we had the movement thing down pat. Two hours later, we were still wiping after a single fear, and things weren't looking extremely positive. Well, to make a long story short, we started DPSing, and then three attempts later, we do what Carpe has ALWAYS done, and something just CLICKS for us. We got him down to 15% before finally succumbing to his "haha, one person died, so now EVERYONE dies" ability. We regrouped. however, and managed to get Archimonde down 2 attempts later, less than 5 attempts after starting to DPS him, and got our third pieces of T6 armor for some people. All I had read about the fight pointed towards it being "You win at 10%, no matter what," and I have no idea if that's true or not, I just know that it felt suitably epic to be standing there, as the main tank, dual-wielding my fastest weapons, hammering my execute key until I thought it was going to fall off my keyboard, while he spammed his instant-kill "Finger of Death" on everyone in the raid repeatedly. It felt like we, and he, were truly desperate for the victory, and THAT is what makes a good encounter, not huge tank damage, not dancing patterns for void zones, not huge AoE that everyone has to wear resist gear for, no. Epic fights like that one, and Kael'thas are what I live for, personally. We're working on Council tomorrow night, hopefully, and with any luck, you'll see a similar post here tomorrow about them.
